How to Keep Your Kiddos Entertained During a Quarantine

HOW TO KEEP YOUR KIDDOS ENTERTAINED DURING A QUARANTINE

 

With quarantine continuing, keeping the kids entertained can be tricky. So, we’ve gathered both indoor and outdoor activities that are creative, educational, simple, and fun! With some eagerness and imagination we can use this time to strengthen the bonds with our loved ones and create lasting memories to look back on!

1. EGG TOSS PAINITINGS

Painting is always an activity that kids love to do! It can be a mess sometimes but that can be an advantage with this fun egg toss painting activity!

What you need:

  • A dozen eggs
  • Paint of your choice
  • Canvas or Poster Paper
  • An outdoor space to have some fun!

Steps:

  1. Crack the top of 12 raw eggs leaving a bowl shape for the paint
  2. Empty out the egg white and yolk
  3. Rinse out the egg shells so they are clean of any raw egg
  4. Take the colors of your choice and fill each egg shell
  5. Setting up your canvas or poster paper is a place where a potential mess can be made!
  6. Throw the paint filled eggs and have fun!
  7. Dry and see the beautiful masterpiece you made!

(You can use the eggs for a delicious breakfast so none of it goes to waste!)

 

2. SHADOW DRAWING

The sun is always out! Shadow drawing can be a fun activity for your kids even on some of the colder days. Just trace and let their imagination finish the rest!

What you need:

  • Paper
  • Lots of sunlight or a window with a lot of light
  • Pencils
  • Markers / Crayons / Colored Pencils
  • And of course, TOYS to trace and color in!

Steps:

  1. Place your paper on the ground outside or a table near a window with a lot of sun
  2. Place the toy of your choice to trace on the bottom of the table so the shadow casts on the top
  3. Trace the edge of the toy
  4. Color in and finish your awesome art work!

 

3. DIY PLAYDOUGH

Playdough may be sold out in some stores, but that will not be a problem for you! We have The Perfect Recipe for You and Your Kids to Make Some Fun and Colorful Playdough in your own home!

What you need:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup salt
  • 4 teaspoons cream of tartar
  • 2 cups lukewarm water
  • 2 Tablespoons of vegetable oil (coconut oil works too)
  • Food coloring, optional
  • Quart sized bags

Steps:

  1. Mix together the flour, salt and cream of tartar in a large pot
  2. Add in the oil and water
  3. Add in the color of your choice with the food coloring
  4. Cook over medium heat
  5. Stir constantly until the dough thickens and turns into a ball
  6. Remove from heat and place inside a gallon sized bag
  7. Allow to cool
  8. Then knead until smooth
  9. Now you are ready to PLAY!

 

4. DIY CHARADES

Even though we are in quarantine, family game night can still continue! Charades is always a major part of family game night and we have put together some steps and ideas for you to make your own charades game! Grab a pen, some paper, and a hat or bowl! Then, check out this video to get inspired!

Steps:

  1. Write down all your charade ideas on individuals pieces of paper
  2. Place them in the bowl or hat
  3. Decide your teams
  4. Set the timer and win the game!

Your charade topics can be anything from disney movies, animals, actors, or objects. Maybe even make it educational with historical figures! 

 

5. SIDEWALK CHALK OBSTACLE COURSE

The weather has been beautiful which means enjoying some time outside! The perfect thing for that is a sidewalk obstacle course for you and your kiddos to enjoy! The best part? If it rains you get to change up the course with some new ideas! All you need is some sidewalk chalk to get started!

Steps:

  1. Come up with a list of activities for the obstacle course! (Examples: clap 5 times, jump like a frog, hopscotch, “Do a little boogie”, pat your head and rub your stomach) Get as creative as you want
  2. Draw all the obstacle ideas down the sidewalk or driveway in different steps so it flows together
  3. Start at the beginning and just have a good time with it!

 

6. DYI HANDSOAP

As we all know, regular hand soap is hard to come by right now, however that won’t be a problem in your home! This is a fun activity that will guarantee you have soap in your house! Here’s How to Make Crafty Soap at Home!

What you need:

  • Plastic soap molds or plastic cups
  • Vegetable cooking spray / petroleum Jelly
  • Pure glycerin soap
  • Microwave
  • Colored soap dyes
  • Small plastic animals (optional)
  • Chopstick / Popsicle stick

 

7. DIY HALLWAY “LASER” MAZE

Unfortunately Scene75 isn’t open right now, but how about bringing a Scene75 attraction to your house with a DIY laser maze?! It’s simple and fast to set up and the kids get to use their imagination as they are jumping, crawling, and climbing their way back and forth, pretending they’re spies on the big screen!

What you need:

  • Streamer paper / String / Rope
  • Tape

8. FINGERPRINT ART

A perfect, easy, and yet creative project for your kids that will keep them entertained for hours as they stamp their finger and thump prints, to then adding black sharpie or marker to turn their prints into all sorts of animals, monsters, bugs, etc. It’s a great boredom buster, and as long as you have wipes handy for them to clean up with, it doesn’t even make a mess.

All you need is:

  • Paint or Colorful Ink Pads
  • Markers

9. GROW A RAINBOW

Time to get a little educational, since you’re officially teacher for the time being! This fun activity is a great science experiment to do at home with your little ones! With only a few steps, your children will be in awe watching a rainbow grow right before their eyes!

What you need:

  • Paper Towel
  • Colorful Markers
  • Cups of Water

10. ROCK PETS

Making rock pets is perfect for kids who love to craft! Your kids can home their new pets in their rooms or out in the garden! And they can make their rock whatever they want, whether it’s an animal or something completely made up! It’s fun to create your very own character and new pet! So get outside and go hunting for some rocks!

What you need:

  • Rocks
  • Paint
  • Markers
  • Optional: Googley eyes or any sort of supplies you have around the house that sparks your interest. (With this, you may need glue)
