10 Ways to Not Go Stir Crazy in a Quarantine

10 WAYS TO PREVENT YOURSELF FROM GOING STIR-CRAZY!

We know the past few weeks of quarantine haven’t been the easiest. Having to adjust to a new schedule of staying at home has been pretty interesting to say the least. We all miss our friends, our favorite restaurants and our routines! So, what better time to start getting creative? If social distancing has got you going stir-crazy, Scene75 has came up with 10 ways to use this down time to benefit ourselves and even the community!

1 – TRY A NEW RECIPE

Now that we are stuck at home for the time being, why not use this opportunity to become a master chef in the kitchen? Cooking not only is a great way to pass the time, but it comes with great satisfaction to provide the fuel and nutrients to ourselves and our loved ones.

So turn on your favorite cooking show and get inspired! With the consideration that ingredients and supplies may be limited, here is a list of 89 Recipes With 5 Ingredients or Fewer to help get your new culinary hobby started!

2 – START A NEW BOOK OR PODCAST

Have any books on your shelf that you have yet to read or a tablet / kindle you haven’t picked up in a while? Reading has numerous benefits, including mental stimulation, improvement in memory, and stress reduction, just to name a few! Get into a good book and a few hours feels like a few minutes!

Here is a great site you can use to read, listen, or download books for free! All you have to do is enter your email!

If you’d rather have something to listen to podcasts are also a great source for entertainment, and they’re generally easy to follow along to while you’re doing other things! Most smart phones already have a podcast app pre-downloaded!

3 – AT HOME WORKOUTS & YOGA

Since all or most of the non-essential establishments have closed, it’s never been more challenging to get your daily dose of exercise in. Regular physical activity is critical for your mental health and could play a huge part in feeling stir-crazy!

So, if you don’t have any downstairs neighbors you may bother, break a sweat and start working out from home! If you do have close neighbors, it may be a better idea to try some light yoga!

4 – MOVIE MARATHON

Have a favorite movie series, but haven’t watched it from beginning to end because you don’t have enough time? Dedicate a whole day (or two… or three) to relax, unwind, and enjoy your favorite series while getting cozy on the couch with your favorite snacks! You deserve some time to enthrall yourself into another world! There’s no pandemics in The Office!

Netflix, Hulu, HBO, Amazon Prime! Maybe whip out some old DVDs you haven’t touched in a while!

5 – PAMPER YOURSELF

Cause why not? Like we said, you deserve some time to forget all the worries in the world for a little bit. Enjoy your favorite beverage, use the best bath bomb you have, give yourself a manicure, or pamper yourself however you know best. It’s been a long few weeks, so treat yourself right!

6 – DYI HOME DECOR & ART PROJECTS

We all have a project or two around the house that we’ve been meaning to get to! Turn on your favorite tunes and get to crafting!

Do you know how to sew or have a sewing machine at home? If you are looking for ideas on ways to help the community during this pandemic, it could be SUPER beneficial to make DIY masks to donate to local hospitals in need. Health care workers are currently running low, and by doing this, you are not only crafting for entertainment, but you are helping others be safe!

7 – PUZZLES, BOARD GAMES & VIDEO GAMES

Challenge yourself or your friends! Puzzles, board games, or video games can be a great bonding experience and they’ll bring people together! Whether you live with your competition or you challenge them virtually, this can be a great way to boost your mood and get you thinking critically!

8 – GO ON A WALK OR HIKE IN THE PARK

The gyms are closed and options are limited! Just because all businesses are closed, doesn’t mean the great outdoors are off limits! Go to your local park or hiking trail to get some fresh air and reset yourself (please keep at least a 6 foot distance from anyone else you may pass during your walk).

Don’t go alone! Take your dog, if you have one, with you! They need the exercise just as much, and you’ll both have a good night sleep afterwards!

9 – CALL YOUR LOVED ONES

Check in with the people that matter the most! Especially the ones who are older, have any sort of underlying health conditions, or those who live alone!

Don’t only do it for them, but do it for yourself as well! You may have a lot of spare time on your hands so call your family and catch up! If you have the option, video chats are a great way to get on a more personal level. Seeing a familiar smile even over a screen can make all the difference!

10 – ORGANIZE

Have a junk drawer or two around the house full of miscellaneous items? How about those pesky tupperware containers that are crammed into a spot in the kitchen? Organizing your things is a great way toss what isn’t needed or remind yourself of what you have that may be useful to you!

Get into spring cleaning while listening to your favorite podcast! You may even find something that could be useful for someone else during the pandemic!

We hope this list helps make your quarantine a little better! If there’s anything we want you to take away, it’s that adjusting to this strange new lifestyle can be difficult at first… but with some creativity you can really work to improve your happiness and home.

We’ll see you when this is all over! You’re all invited to Scene75 as soon as we get the green light to reopen! May we never take our social spaces, fun group settings and weekends for granted again!
